Finally, all parties agreed to a common entrance examination for admission to CFTIs (centrally funded technical institutes) in 2013 and beyond. In the emergency meeting called on 27 June to decide the IIT JEE 2013 pattern, IIT council decided to go with the newly proposed common entrance test, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), however with some modifications. The meeting was called after IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi rejected the proposal by HRD to include class 12th marks for merit list preparation and announced plans to conduct their own examination. These announcement put pressure on HRD and Kapil Sibal to discuss and reach a compromise solution. Now that IIT JEE will be replaced by JEE Main and Advanced, the following scheme will be used for admission process.
IIT JEE 2013 Pattern: New Format For Admission to IIT
1. JEE MAIN (screening test)
- Objective type test
- Conducted by CBSE
- Approximately top 1.5 lakh students from the main exam can take JEE Advanced
2. JEE ADVANCED (merit/ranking test)
- The format will be decided by JAB (Joint Admission Board) which has been conducting IIT-JEE test from last 25 years
- Conducted jointly by IITs
Admissions to IITs will be based only on category wise All India Rank (AIR) ONLY on basis of performance in JEE ADVANCED.
ONLY top 20% students, in their respective class 12th board examination, will be considered for the merit list.
The 15 IITs are in New Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkee, Guwahati, Rajasthan, Gandhi Nagar, Patna, Hyderabad, Ropar, Mandi, Bhubaneshwar and Indore.

Any notification on number of attempts yet ?? Will students who passed boards in 2011 be allowed to give a shot at both JEE 2013 as well as the CBSE improvement exam ??
Plz reply asap
Final merit list will be prepared ONLY on basis of performance in JEE ADVANCED.
ONLY top 20% students, in their respective class 12th board examination, will be considered for the merit list means that only 90 % marks in Board above will be elgible to take admission in IIT. Again a Question mark ? on the merit. Why don’t gov/ IIT governing body are confused
So basically AIEEE will be renamed Jee Main and IIT JEE would be renamed Jee Advanced and the board exam cut off would be much higher? Interesting… So atleast they got rid of that stupid English exam (and so much for the ‘One Nation One Test’ agenda)… Should I assume IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi joined in (The 15 IITs are in New Delhi, Kanpur…)?
I wonder what the various cut-offs would be too. I am guessing it would be atleast 85% for CBSE and ISC boards.
@jeehelpline: so wat xactly happens to the droppers.I followed an earlier notification on 28th may abt special provision for improvement for the 2012 batch .. dat is still prevelant right??? we seriosly need dat provision coz the cut-offs are way higher!!
Yes, students will be allowed to take board examination for improvement. However, you need to wait for information from your board on the rules/format. Please note that there are more than 40 school boards in India.
M from cbse .. the board involved with iseet .. so they should!

Dear Rajat, based on few unconfirmed reports, 20% cut off for CBSE may be around 78%. However, there is NO OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION. We need to wait for CBSE to announce the rules/guidelines on calculating the cut-offs.
However, you can take the improvement examination. CBSE is expected to issue some details in August regarding the same.
is main is going to be a ‘sat’ type exam.
what is syllabus of jee main ?
sir/madam i was absent in AISSE cbse -2011 board due to my illness but i have cleared my board examination in 2012 & appeared in AIEEE but not in IIT-JEE 2012 .Can i appear in ISEET-2013 examination. Reply soon …………
sir, when will notification on iseet is going be declared
and will rpet to come under iseet or not.plz reply soon.
will there any restriction for nit please reply
NITs have a separate formula : 40% weightage for boards and 60% for the [AIEEE-style] Jee Main Exam [so you don't need to be in the top 20% students of your board]. If your state engineering exam was replaced by the central exam, they may use their own formula [with a specific % of boards and Jee Main] for entrance into engineering colleges previously using the state engineering exam score alone.
is it true that iit delhi protesting for new steps taken by jee
wat is the top 20 % in jammu and kashmir board.cn u tell me plz
how can they impose completely new system in mid session after all board examination is over,
