After a series of discussions, announcements, and war of words with IITs, HRD ministry declared that a compromise solution has been reached for admission to IITs. In a meeting on 27th June, IIT council reached a consensus on admission procedure to IITs in 2013. As per the latest plan, JEE Main will be used as a screening test and JEE Advanced will be used for preparing final merit list for admission. Also, only top 20% students in their respective boards will be considered irrespective of their performance in JEE. After this announcement, it seemed that all concerns are addressed and now we have a final decision.

But, on 28th June, IIT Delhi alumni association ‘rejected’ this new compromise formulae suggested by IIT council. The top 20% rule is the primary point of difference. “The 20 percent criteria and 2013 to be the beginning year of the new proposal stands rejected because such patch-work solutions have been taken in haste to meet deadlines,” said a statement by the association. IIT Delhi alumni association has a strong belief that this 20% rule will be a disadvantage for the rural students who do not have access to good schooling facilities. The similar point was raised by Super 30 founder Mr. Anand Kumar, that the new format is not suitable for rural students and offers an unfair advantage for urban and private school students.

The ‘rejection’ opened a ‘Pandora of Boxes’. IIT Delhi alumni association’s decision can lead to a new wave of protests and rejection statements from different part of the society and IIT faculty or alumni. As the new format is announced recently, other IITs will also hold meetings of their senate and alumni to discuss this new format. This is a chance that we might hear more rejections from other IITs. Thus, the students are once again in a ‘wait and watch’ situation.

If % of 12th are not counted for jee admission 2013 then why choose top 20percentile student from boards to appear jee advance.other rural students which are not selected in top20percentile of their own boards, they lost their chance to appear jee advance. decision by “IIT DELHI” alumini is 100% right.

Kapil sibbal is creating stress in disguise..in spite of erasing stress from the students`mind..so the new format is seen of no use still……

  • Tarun says:

Please tell us the final format mr. kapil sibal. It is creating stress and this 20 percentile pattern has the potential to become national disaster.
