Recent oppositions by many IITs had led to a state of confusion on implementation of ISEET in 2013. Although HRD is very keen to start this common engineering admission test from 2013, the resistance is coming from all quarters. HRD announced ISEET test two months back after a meeting with all state secretaries. Mr. Kapil Sibal was very confident to pull this out and bring all the states, along with IITs, on board. While he managed to bring most of the states on board, IITs started to oppose a common examination including them.
The main point to contention is use of class XII board marks for admission to IITs. There are multiple views against the same including teachers, students, and coaching institutes who are not in favor of including class 12th marks for admission to IITs. As per a news article from Hindustan Times, the senates of IITs in Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur and Khargapur are firm in their opinion that implementing any change from 2013 in the JEE exam would be unpragmatic and confusing for the students. The senates have strongly felt that there should be a lean period of at least two years before the actual implementation of the reforms.
HRD also asked different IIT senates and teachers for their ideas on JEE reforms. However it seems that these all incidences may delay the implementation of common entrance examination. There is a chance that the plan is implemented in 2014. The ongoing confusion is leading to high uncertainly among the students. One of the student Amit Kabra in class XIth said “I am very confused on how to prepare for IIT in coming two years. All the coaching institutes have launched ISEET specific batches however the details are not finalized for ISEET. I am not able to decide how much focus I should have on board examination.”
IseetIndia.com team feels that the students in class 11th and 12th should keep a high focus on board examination. In case IITs are able to convince HRD for not including class 12th marks for merit calculation, the marks are almost certain to be part of merit calculation for state colleges. AIEEE is surely going to be replaced with ISEET and hence all the institutes which currently accepts AIEEE score will have some amount of weightage for board examination.
